AAPG DEG and EMD Luncheon: The Relationship of Geology to Produced Water Composition and Quality
Thursday, 28 August | 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. | George R. Brown Convention Center
Discover how water chemistry helps us better understand the dynamic Earth beneath our feet and enhance our operations in the energy industry. Water chemistry provides valuable insights into the geologic formations, other fluids and gases, and flow pathways that the water interacts with in the subsurface. Water chemistry can be used to interpret depositional environment, mineralogy, hydrothermal alteration, diagenesis, and residence time in addition to other information that can inform exploration and development decisions. Although geochemists are typically focused on interpreting these natural processes, a geochemist in the energy industry also must be informed about operational practices, including how these practices impact interpretations of water chemistry and how water chemistry can enhance decisions in operations.
